Calder Reach A Major Landmark
Back in 2010 Calder’s Managing Director Maurice Bailey made the decision to set up a dedicated healthcare division within the business specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of radiation shielding for NHS and private hospitals.
“Although a major player in nuclear and research shielding, we were relatively unknown in the healthcare sector.” says Maurice. “We definitely had the capabilities and resources needed to be successful but had to start from scratch building a reputation for quality and value in this new market place.”
Calder’s first major project was at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, and now four years later Calder’s healthcare business has just completed their 200th job!
In that time Calder have shielded linac, CyberKnife and Tomotherapy bunkers, PET/CT, PET/MRI, CT, X-ray, cath labs hybrid theatres and brachytherapy suites not only in the UK but also in Scandinavia and the Middle East.
A few of the many sites where Calder has provided shielding include Guys and St Thomas’, The Royal Marsden, The Royal Free, King’s College Hospital, Great Ormand Street, Harley Street, The Christie, Clatterbridge Hospital and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
“It’s been a great team effort and we are all very proud of what we have been able to achieve in such a relatively short period of time.” says Maurice. “We have some new and exciting opportunities coming up within the next 18 months. The way the business has grown and continues to grow I’m sure we will soon be celebrating 500 healthcare jobs. That said, we will never be complacent or take anything for granted, but will continue to deliver what our customers want, when they want it and within their budget.”
